“He has the quality” – Chelsea legend says the man the board want to sell “gives absolutely everything”

John Terry’s appearance on a podcast this week has certainly generated a few interesting headlines and storylines.

We particularly liked his take on Conor Gallagher, the current player who has had the dubious honour of taking the armband which JT once proudly wore in happier times.

Terry insisted that he was happy with the decision to make Gallagher happened, and admitted there weren’t many others in the squad that he considered up to the task of captaining the Blues.

“I like Conor. I’ve known him since he was a young kid. Seeing him now as a Chelsea fan, I look and go ‘if there’s one player I want to represent and wear the armband it’s him for me,'” the former captain said of his successor.

“I think he’s a very good player. They’re still nurturing, if I’m a fan and watching right now, I want a player who gives absolutely everything, and Conor does that. He has the quality as well, but he’s the one pushing and driving this team in a different way to how I would have as captain.”

JT knows best

JT is a legend for a reason, and no matter what you think of him, there’s no doubting he has Chelsea’s best interests at heart.

It’s also become increasingly clear over the last couple of years that anyone who laughed at the overblown “captain, leader, legend” stuff was bang wrong – just look at our team and how desperately it needs a JT figure in the dressing room.

Gallagher is one of the few players in this squad who looks like he has the potential to reach that sort of level, especially in terms of connection with the fans – but given how keen those in charge are to sell him this summer, it looks like might not get the chance.

  1. Conor Gallagher is one of the few committed guys we have in our team. He fights and runs and pushes himself.
He doesn’t look as talented as many of the other players. But he keeps on demonstrating every Captain quality.
It’d be one of the worst decisions if we sell him.
