Chelsea’s talks to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli ‘are proceeding’ per exclusive

According to an exclusive report this week, Chelsea’s talks to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen ‘are proceeding’ albeit at a slow pace.

The Naples man has been linked with Chelsea for quite a long time now and is expected to make his big move away from his current club in the summer transfer window. Other clubs such as PSG have been linked as well.

Sources: Manager names on Chelsea’s shortlist to replace Mauricio Pochettino revealed!

Chelsea will clearly be looking to sign a new striker come the summer when the window opens, but they are also being linked with many other names recently, with one report recently claiming Chelsea will rival Arsenal for the signing of striker Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig.

Sesko would be less than half the price of what Osimhen would cost Chelsea and with the circumstances of FFP and PSR looming over clubs right now, surely it would be wiser for Chelsea to go for a cheaper option?

They have always seemed to really like and love the dream of signing Osimhen though, so this story continues to bubble up.

Caught Offside have the exclusive this week, and they claim that regarding possible incoming transfers for Chelsea this summer, talks for Napoli marksman Victor Osimhen are proceeding, but at a slow pace.

The Nigerian striker, who will leave the Partnopei in the summer, has always been considered as the main target for Chelsea.

And they are correct, he HAS always been considered as the main target for Chelsea this summer. But the question is can they afford to drop another £110m plus for a single player and can they afford his wages? It’s actually not a question of whether they can physically afford it or not, it’s more can they risk breaking more financial rules to sign him and would it even be wise to drop that much cash on him?

Personally, I don’t think it would be.

  1. Chelsea should bring in the Napoli man, sterling, Hakim,James, chiwell, sa, lukaku and others can give Chelsea more then $100,000

  2. Yeah, I’d argue it’s less about whether Osimhen’s price puts us in FFP peril and more about whether he’s WORTH 100m. The value of any striker we look to bring in needs to be gauged against the current goal output from Nicolas Jackson. Given that the Senegalese has shown a real talent for creating chances (even if his finishing needs to improve), and has converted 10 non-penalty goals, we’d be paying 100m for Osimhen to give us some additional increment (6 goals? 8? Maybe 10?). That’s an awful lot of money considering that you have to expect Jackson’s conversion rate to increase with age and experience. Thus, you have to believe Osimhen will come in and really dominate from day one (scoring AT LEAST 20 goals) to justify his eye-popping fee.

If you ask me, it’s not worth it. Jackson still has too much upside potential and we haven’t even seen Nkunku in the lineup with him for more than a handful of minutes.

  3. We don’t have the time to babysit Nicholas Jackson we need a striker that will hit the ground running a 20 + goals a season striker. The profligate finishing of Jackson is really nauseating. I Will say go get Osimhen. ASAP.
