Exclusive names the two clubs who are closing in on Chelsea attacker for a summer move

We reported yesterday on the Fabrizio Romano Tweet which claimed that Premier League teams were interested in Armando Broja, as Chelsea geared up to prepare to sell him.

Now, thanks to our writer Simon Phllips’ exclusive on Substack, we have further information on who those two teams are: “There will be other clubs showing interest as well, and in fact I am told there isother interest for certain. But the two clubs that sources know are keen on Broja is Brentford, and newly promoted Ipswich Town,” he wrote.

Chelsea won’t mind too much which way he goes. At this stage, their priority is just getting the money in as soon as possible. Those two are hardly going to have the budget for monster offers, but they should both be able to summon up the £20m or so that Chelsea will be looking for.

There’s also an interesting nugget in the piece about Mauricio Pochettino, who was apparently “annoyed” that one of his two options up front was being loaned out in January. He will certainly be expecting a replacement this summer.

Two interesting paths to go down

Both clubs would certainly be interesting options for Broja. Assuming Ivan Toney leaves, Brentford will have big shoes to fill, but Broja has the potential to do it well. He’s not quite got the imposing physical size of Toney, but he’s big enough, and has a burst of pace that Toney didn’t.

The Bees have had an injury ravaged season, but are otherwise usually well set up to help out their attackers.

Ipswich are more of an unknown quantity. They looked amazing all year in the Championship, but nobody is quite sure how they will match up in the top flight. That’s perhaps more of a gamble, although Broja might have a better guarantee of the minutes he desperately needs there.
