Chelsea’s injured man makes rapid training return – plus forgotten talent on the grass too

It was a stunning sunny day at Cobham today, and the players looked happy to be back to work following very well deserved Monday off.

Spirits couldn’t be higher – 5 really good halves of football played consecutively. We’re not sure when the last time we had that was. And that’s not the only good news. There’s also a host of talent returning to the squad this week.

Christopher Nkunku and Malo Gusto came off the bench in our last game, and Levi Colwill looks close to playing too.

Also out on the grass today were two other faces who we were delighted to see.

Carney Chukwuemeka in training.

A fast return to action

For Enzo Fernandez, things are going to move quickly now. It’s not long since his surgery, but he’s already kicking a ball around. It’s a race for fitness for him, as his priority is playing in the Copa America later this summer. He will hopefully be managed carefully, but the fact that he’s out there on the grass already shows that the surgery is really pretty small in football terms.

He should have more than enough time to build up gradually so that he can be at his best for Argentina.

The other notable feature in some of the photos we saw was Carney Chukwuemeka. His season has been an endless string of annoying small issues, and we’ve no idea if he’s actually close to playing now. In fact, we’ve slightly written off this season for him. Which is annoying, as last season was a write off too.

We just hope he’s coming back slow and steady and will see at least some minutes before the campaign is over. We’re more than happy with getting Nkunku and Gusto back this week in terms of making an instant impact on the first team.

Anything else is just a bonus.
