Chelsea still haven’t bid for former defender despite opening of January window

Managers are starting their press conferences ahead of this weekend’s matches, and there is already some juicy Chelsea news.

The Blues have been extensively linked with several players for this window, including Nathan Ake of Bournemouth.

We sold the centre back to the Cherries a few years ago, but were smart enough to include a buy back clause.

However, according to Eddie Howe’s quotes on Sky Sports, no offers have been received for the defender, from anywhere.

Asked directly whether bids had been received, the manager of the struggling South Coast club said:

“Nothing to report on Nathan [Ake]. He is recovering well from his injury, we will see when he is back fit.”

So it’s a slight change of subject form Eddie, but he also pretty directly manages to deny that bids are coming in.

Either way, we should have a big advantage over the competition because of our buy-back clause. That should mean that, no matter what, if we really want him, we can get him ahead of other interested parties.

Maybe this all means our reported interest was just a smokescreen?
