Wonderkid set for Chelsea medical

Croatian starlet Mario Pasalic is set for a Chelsea medical in May ahead of a move to Chelsea, which was partially agreed on the January deadline day.

The midfielder agreed a pre-contract with the Blues on the same day Chelsea secured Kurt Zouma’s signature, for a fee of around 2 million from Croation club Hajduk Split.

The 19-year-old, who has been likened to Michael Ballack, is set for a medical at Cobham ahead of his finalised move to Chelsea which will become official in or around June.

The role he will have to play in next season’s Chelsea team is yet unknown, but going by what we have seen recently with young Chelsea talents, we can expect a loan move for the first season or two.

Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo clearly signalled that the hot-talent would be spending a number of seasons elsewhere before playing for the Blues:

“In the summer he has to go to a club where he will continue to evolve in order to one day play at Stamford Bridge.”

The midfielder has represented his country at the under-16, 17 and 19 levels, and recently made his debut for the under-21 squad, as well as being watched in a club game by Chelsea director Michael Emenalo.

Despite his tender age, there are already faint calls for him to join up with the full international team on the plane to Brazil.

The youngster appeared down to earth as he gave his first interview in Januray having agreed a contract with the Blues:

I’m glad everything is successfully completed, it is now back to training…I have to concentrate solely on Hajduk.”

Even if Chelsea fans are to wait a year or two before they see their new midfield starlet in action, if reports and highlights of the youngster’s time in Croatia are to go by, Mourinho has a real talent for the future on his hands.
