What Loic Remy could potentially bring to Chelsea

Arsenal might have triggered Loic Remy’s release clause last night, but most news outlets say that Chelsea are still in pole position to land the Frenchman as the transfer window draws to a close on Monday night.

As such, I have decided to write about exactly what Remy could bring to Chelsea (provided that  he signs) and why he is exactly what they need.

Remy has been prolific since arriving in England back in 2013. He showed glimpses of what he can do during his initial six month stay with Queens Park Rangers. After QPR were relegated that season, Remy decided to join Alan Pardew’s Newcastle on a season-long loan from Rangers.

In his first full season, Remy managed to bag 14 goals from 26 games, an impressive tally given that it was his first full season in England. He also managed to play a part in his team’s goal by providing 3 assists. He had an impressive conversion rate of 15.6 %, one of the highest in the league. The French international averaged 3.5 shots a game and 1.2 key passes every game. Quite impressive for a striker.

The former Marseille man’s versatility is another key aspect of his game that should be taken into account. He can play on both the left and the right wing and is good with both feet. He is as lethal on the wing as he is as the main striker and tends to cut in on his right foot. Despite this, he is still almost as good with his left foot.

A good example of his ability with his left foot was the goal he scored against Chelsea in our 2-0 loss to the Magpies in November last year. In the dying minutes of the game, Remy sealed the win with a sweetly struck first-time shot with his left foot that nestled right into the bottom corner giving Petr Cech no chance.

Remy has pace too, one of his biggest strengths. He is lethal inside the box and is almost as good outside it. He possesses a very good long shot.

But what could really stand out about his pending move to Stamford Bridge is simply the price tag that Chelsea are paying for his services. At just £8.5million, Jose Mourinho could be getting the impressive French international at a bargain price.

Loic Remy is a striker that could provide healthy competition for brilliant Diego Costa and would also be a good player to bring on as an impact substitute later on in games. The QPR man could easily bag 10-15 goals this season from the bench, exactly what Chelsea need.
