Romelu Lukaku completes Everton transfer

Everton have completed the signing on Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea for 28 million.

Romelu Lukaku has finally sealed his move away from Stamford Bridge, signing a 5 year contract at Goodison Park, where he spent last year on loan.

Lukaku signed for Chelsea in 2011 for £18 million, but has played just 15 times for the Blues in all competitions.

The 21 year old has had two very successful Premier League loan spells in as many years, scoring 17 league goals for West Brom before getting 16 in all competitions at Everton last campaign.

Lukaku also scored one goal in four apperances at this years World Cup in Brazil, but had a poor tournament overall.

The news of the deal, believed to be a record fee for Everton of £28 million, broke on Wednesday, and Everton called an evening press conference to confirm the news.

However, confirmation was not needed, as reliable outlwts such as BBC Sport reported the news, and Lukaku himself tweeted; “Time to start a new chapter”.

Rumours of a move for Lukaku had been hot over the whole of last season, as he was reportedly unwilling to fight for a place in Mourinho’s plans and critisised his parent club in multiple interviews over the course of the season while playing for Everton.

Furthermore, the signings of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba all but confirmed that Lukaku was not in Mourinho’s mind as he looked for his key front man going into next season.

The news of the deal also points toward a Chelsea stay for troubled frontman Fernando Torres, with Atlético Madrid reportedly ending their interest in bringing him back to the club.

Chelsea make a healthy profit on Lukaku, despite him playing just 10 games for the club, and the move appears to be a good move for all parties, as Everton look to break into the top four last season.
