Official: Diego Costa injured in training

Update: Chelsea have since confirmed there is a minor muscular injury.

The Sun are tonight reporting that Chelsea striker Diego Costa faces six weeks out after injuring his hamstring in training on Wednesday.

The £32 million man has bagged two goals in his first two appearances at Chelsea, but could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

According to The Sun, Costa could miss Chelsea’s coming games after “injuring his hamstring” in Wednesday’s training session.

However, with no confirmation from the club and seemingly no evidence from the newspaper, these rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Until the club confirm the frontman’s injury, there is an equally good chance that we will see him line up against Everton this Saturday.

Costa does have a history with hamstring injuries, most memorably the one which forced him of after eight minutes in last season’s Champions League final.

If these reports are true, rumours will begin to hit the press over who Chelsea will plan to bring in during the remaining few days of the transfer window to replace the Brazilian-born striker.

Chelsea would be left with Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres if Costa faces a spell on the touchline, assuming the latter stays at Chelsea, which in itself looks unlikely at this time.

Either way, we can expect further news over the striker’s injury tomorrow, but Chelsea fans will certainly be hoping that The Sun are wrong about this one.
