Pique linked with Chelsea

Over the past few days rumours linking Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique with Chelsea have surfaced.

According to reports in Spain, Jose Mourinho is keen to add the former Manchester United defender to his squad in the upcoming January transfer window.

Last time Pique faced Chelsea was at the Camp Nou back in our Champions League winning campaign. We knocked Barcelona out after two legs and went on to win the competition historically.

He is known to be good friends with Cesc Fabregas, coming through Barcelona’s famous La Masia with him and moving to the Premier League at a young age. The duo have a lot in common in that respect, so a potential transfer could work.

The reported fee is reported to be in the region of £24 million, which is a hefty fee for someone who turns 28 in February.

If the Spaniard were to sign for Chelsea, where would he fit into the current side? John Terry and Gary Cahill have formed a formindable partnership over the past two years under Mourinho, but with the former nearing the end of his career, is he being eyed as a potential replacement for the Chelsea great?

He would join fellow countrymen Cesar Azpilicueta, Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas, so would hopefully settle tight down again.
