New deal for Romeu

Oriol Romeu has today signed a three-year contract extension, which will keep him at the club until 2017.

Romeu impressed in a youthful squad away to Wycombe last night, playing 70 minutes in a game that saw Chelsea begin their pre-season with a 5-0 victory.

The Spaniard signed for the club in the summer of 2011, and despite struggling to make the first team in the months after his arrival, the 22 year-old really excelled in a regular spell under Benitez. However, last season saw Romeu sent out to La Liga to join Valencia on a season-long loan, where the midfielder featured in just 13 league games.

There was a lot of doubt surrounding the Spaniard’s future, but the new deal would suggest Mourinho has been impressed by what he has seen in pre-season so far.

With the sale of Mikel looking likely, do you believe Romeu has a long term future at the club? Leave your comments below.
