Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has spoken out about his ambitions for his Chelsea team, claiming he wants to continue growing for the next 10 years.
Jose Mourinho has said he wants to vastly improve on last season’s trophyless campaign with a successful year this time around, whilst also planning even further ahead for his Chelsea side.
Chelsea finished third in the Premier League last season and also reched the Champions League semi-finals, but it is clearly trophies that Mourinho is targeting to bring back to Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Mourinho said:
“If I didnÂ’t think we would win the Premier League, I would go home and let somebody else take charge of the team.”
“At Chelsea, if we didn’t think we could win the league, or didn’t think we had the quality to do it, we wouldn’t be here working so hard”, Mourinho added.
“Last year we reached the semi-finals of the Champions League – and it was a transitional season.”
“We had a very young team at the time but, even so, we reached the semi-finals and were playing to win the competition.”
This summer, we’ve bought new players and we are trying to build for the next decade.
“And this season we think we are going to be stronger. The younger players are more experienced, they are stable and better adapted to fighting for titles”, Mourinho finished.
Mourinho has added to the array of talent on show at Chelsea with three major additions in the shape of two former Atlético players, Filipe Luis and Diego Costa, as well as former Arsenal man Cesc Fabregas who signed from Barcelona.
Mourinho’s comments are contrary to what he said of his teams chances of success throughout last season, famously claiming Chelsea were a “little horse”, and never in control of winning the Premier League.
However, these latest comments clearly show that Mourinho is hungry for sucess in his second spell at the Bridge after a trophy-laden first stint in charge in West London.
Chelsea open their Premier League campaign away to newly promoted Burnley on Monday, August 18th.
