Messi to Chelsea?

Rumours over Messi’s future have been becoming more frequent in the last couple of days, with not many club’s being able to afford him does this mean Chelsea are a strong contender to capture his signature if he was to leave?

Messi’s future at Barcelona is looking increasingly doubtful. Real Madrid have seemed to have broken Barcelona’s dominance and with the Catalans not looking the same side as they did a couple of years ago, does this mean Messi wants a one way flight out of Barcelona?

Lionel Messi; one of the world’s best ever footballers has also recently broken a huge record in La Liga. He has now scored the most ever goals in the league. This could maybe mean Messi wants a new challenge and why not in the Premier League, a league where many fellow South American’s have enjoyed the best years of their careers here.

There aren’t many clubs who can afford Messi though. In theory there are only 2-3 clubs who can; Chelsea, Man City or Real Madrid. However just because these clubs can possibly afford him, it doesn’t mean he will turn up there.

Messi has played his whole career at Barcelona therefore it is extremely unlikely he would turn up in the capital, Madrid due to their intense rivalry.

Another candidate would be Man City but with their disappointing form in Europe, would Messi really want to play for a team who isn’t going to be challenging for the Champions League at this moment in time.

Also due to Man City’s recent expenditures, they have broken financial fair play rules leading to their Champions league squad being reduced; they are only allowed to register 21 players for the competition this year rather than 25. This means they would have to produce some serious revenue to be able to afford Messi without breaking the financial fair play rules again.

This then leaves Chelsea, who made a profit of just short of £20 million for this financial year. Therefore he is more affordable to us than the other contenders. Chelsea are also managed by arguably the best manager in the world, Jose Mourinho. Surely Messi would love to work under him? London is also the home of Chelsea, a great city which many footballers  love to living in.

Not to mention the Premier League, the world’s best league in which Messi has never played in. Most footballers dream of playing in England all their childhood so again this is another reason for him to join the Blues.

Messi wanting to leave Barcelona is just a rumour at this present moment in time, but if Messi was to come out and say he wants to leave surely Chelsea would be amongst the favourites to sign him.
