Diego Costa banned for three matches

Chelsea’s Diego Costa has been handed a three-game ban by the FA today for an apparent stamp on Liverpool’s Emre Can.

The Football Association announced on Wednesday that they had charged Costa with violent conduct following an incident in his side’s League Cup semi-final win on Tuesday.

And, today (Friday), despite Costa’s appeal, the FA have handed him a three game ban, starting with Chelsea heavyweight clash with Manchester City tomorrow evening.

An official online statement read:

Diego Costa will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after a charge of violent conduct against him was found proven by an Independent Regulatory Commission

“The Chelsea forward had denied the charge in relation to an on-field incident involving Liverpools Emre Can which occurred in the 12th minute of the League Cup semi-final second leg.”

“The incident was not seen by the match officials but caught on video”, it finished.

As well as the clash with title rivals Manchester City, Costa will also miss league games again Aston Villa and Everton.

The former Atlético frontman is the Premier League’s top scorer so far this season with 17 goals in just 19 appearances.

Mourinho will now have a decision to make about who will start tomorrow’s game which is being tipped as the biggest match of the season for both sides, with Didier Drogba and Loic Remy competing for the starting spot.
