Courtois: I hope to win the Champions League one day

Thibaut Courtois spoke to the Chelsea website today about tonight’s game and his dreams about winning the champions league.

Courtois expects a completely different match compared to the 6-0 thrashing over Maribor in the home tie.

‘We will have to be careful because Sporting Lisbon drew there and it will be a difficult away game,’

Just because we won 6-0 at home, there is no reason for us to believe this game will be the same.Â’

He then gives Chelsea fans an insight on what it is like playing in the champions league, and how it is different to the league.

‘In the Champions League you’re playing against the best teams and you know every little mistake can be punished with a goal against,’ he says.

‘In European football you need to be able to deal with the different approaches of teams; sometimes in domestic football teams can be quite open, whereas in Europe, because you are playing against the best teams from different countries it can be very difficult and the level is very high.’

Courtois then speaks about how he would love to win the champions league one day. However he acknowledges it won’t be an easy task.

‘I hope to win the Champions League one day and if we can do it this season it would be great,’ says the Belgian. ‘I’ve always dreamed of winning it, last season I lost in the final but hopefully I will have many more chances.

‘If you look at Real Madrid, they had to wait over 10 years to win it for the 10th time, so it’s obviously not an easy competition to win.

‘Last season was the first time I’d played in the competition and we managed to reach the final. I think it’s a great tournament and hopefully we can reach the semi-finals or final, that will be a great experience for this team.’
