Costa talks up Jose influence

Shakhtar Donetsk forward, Douglas Costa, has revealed his attraction to Jose Mourinho, labelling him as “among the best in the world”.

The Brazilian has spoken of his desire to join Chelsea in the past week, and posits this week that Jose Mourinho would be crucial for his progress as a player.

“Playing at Chelsea is a dream for any player. It is standing next to some of the best players in the world and competing with the world’s best as well. But really, what catches my eye is the coach. He is a very intelligent coach and victorious wherever he went. One of the things that would make me happier to join Chelsea would be this,” Costa told GloboEsporte.com.

The Brazilian was subject to a reported £16m bid from Chelsea, which was immediately rejected by Shakhtar, but this has not peddled the dreams of Costa, as he still maintains the desire to play for one of the best clubs in the world, and was also full of praise for his manager, Mircea Lucescu.

“I learned a lot here with Lucescu. I arrived at Shakhtar at 19 years and he taught me a lot. I am very grateful. But I also know that with Mourinho at Chelsea, my progress would be even greater. He won just about everything. He’s among the best, if not the best. He’s at the top.”

Douglas Costa’s price-tag is set at £30m, and this will prove a stumbling block for Chelsea as the Brazilian has managed just 2 goals in over 600 minutes for Shakhtar at this season, however, his focus remains clear, and that is making a change to The Blues.

“I have put my situation to Shakhtar and they said they would try to help me. Now, you will see a move come to an agreement.”
