Costa claims award

Today, Diego Costa picked up the Barclays Premier League Player of the Month award for August.

The striker has begun the season is fine form, netting four goals in just three August appearances, including two in a frantic 6-3 victory at Goodison Park at the end of the month.

The goals game in Costa’s first three appearances in England, and he looks the part to spearhead Chelsea’s attack this season.

Costa spoke to Chelseafc.com after winning the award:  ‘I’m very happy to win this award. It is important to begin well at a new club and I’m pleased with both my start to the season and also the team’s, which is the most important thing.

‘I hope to continue scoring goals to help out the team and keep making our fantastic supporters happy. I thank my team-mates as they have helped me win this award.’

The 25 year-old is a doubt for tomorrow’s game against Swansea, due to an injury he picked up on international duty.

Elsewhere, Jose Mourinho lost out on the Manager of the Month award to Swansea’s Garry Monk, while Cesc Fabregas was one of the other players nominated for the award Costa claimed.
