Conspiracy against Chelsea?

Since Roman Abramovich took over Chelsea, they have been a force in England and in Europe. 11 trophies in the past decade is a proof of how successful Chelsea have been during this spell. However, with great success you make great enemies and its well known that we are hated by many for this reason.

Chelsea’s success have followed many controversial decisions against them. If its a coincidence or a deliberate act one can only question. The famous ‘ghost goalÂ’ by Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final is a fine example. ChelseaÂ’s game against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final 2009 is also one of most controversial matches in recent years. Tom Henning Ovrebo who officiated the game later admitted that his mistakes in the game denied Chelsea a place in the final.

But here i want to highlight some of the domestic games which involves controversial decisions.

Manchester United 2 – 0 Chelsea – September 2007

Chelsea visited Old Trafford right after Jose MourinhoÂ’s exit. Avram GrantÂ’s first game in charge took a huge blow when John Obi Mikel was harshly sent off for a challenge on Patrice Evra. UnitedÂ’s first goal came after referee Mike Dean failed to blow for half-time as the allotted two minutes of added time had already elapsed. ChelseaÂ’s appeal for a penalty for an Evra trip on Ashley Cole was also denied.

Chelsea 3 – 3 Manchester United – February 2012

Chelsea was on course for a comfortable win after gaining a 3 goal lead just after half time. However, Howard Webb gave 2 controversial penalties for United in quick succession for them to get back in the game. Hernandez scored the equalizer in the final few minutes to level the game.

Chelsea 2 – 3 Manchester United – October 2012

Manchester United took a two-goal lead early in the game, but leaders Chelsea fought back superbly to level with goals from Juan Mata and Ramires either side of the interval. Chelsea comeback came to a halt when Mark Clattenburg issues 2 red cards in the space of five minutes. Hernandez scored the winner from close range but it was converted from an offside position.

Manchester City 2 – 1 Chelsea (FA CUP) – April 2013

Manchester City looked on course for a comfortable victory when Chelsea tried to make a comeback after a goal from Demba Ba gave them some hope. However, Chelsea were denied a blatant penalty by referee Foy when Fernando Torres had his shirt pulled by Kompany. AgueroÂ’s horrific two footed lunge on David Luiz was also waved off. FA failed to punish Aguero for that challenge.

Aston Villa 1 – 0 Chelsea – Mar 2014

ChelseaÂ’s Premier League title hopes dented when they lost to Aston Villa. The match took a huge turn when Willian was controversially sent off by Chris Foy. Aston Villa scored the winning goal after Chelsea went a man down. Chelsea also felt hard done by after a Nemanja Matic effort was ruled out for offside. Ramires was later sent off for a challenge on El Ahmadi.

Chelsea 1 – 2 Sunderland – April 2014

Jose Mourinho incredible run of 77 games unbeaten game to an end after referee Mike Dean handed Sunderland a controversial penalty. Chelsea had two penalty appeals turned down by referee Dean as Alonso appeared to handle inside the box and Sebastian Larsson shoulder-barged Ramires off the ball in front of goal.

Its impossible to highlight all the games in which he have suffered from bad decisions. If its conspiracy against us or not its up to you to decide, let us know how you feel about it.

  1. Not every game is a conspiracy, need to grow up. The biggest scandal was Frisk sending off Drogba. Some of Foy’s performances have been odd, but bent is going too far

  2. Clutching at straws a bit here. Admittedly we have been hard done by in champions league against some of the top clubs. But the Sunderland game was lost because as we have shown time and time again this season we have no prolific striker. We have had some fortunate decisions go our way this season as well as some going against us. I’m a big Mouriniho fan but blaming the ref at the weekend was embarrassing for the club.
