Cometh the hour, Cometh the man – Didier Drogba is Back!

After bowing out two years ago in blistering fashion by scoring the winning penalty in Munich to win chelsea their first Champions League trophy, Didier Drogba has returned.

The Ivorian who spent a year in China playing for Shanghai Shenhua as well as a year in Turkey at Galatasaray has returned on a one year deal. The 36 year old was voted as Chelsea’s all time best player in a fan poll when he left the club.

Jose Mourinho told journalistsHe’s coming because heÂ’s one of the best strikers in Europe. I know his personality very well and I know if he comes back heÂ’s not protected by history or what heÂ’s done for this club previously. He is coming with the mentality to make more history.Â’

Drogba himself said: ‘It was an easy decision – I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to work with Jose again.  Everyone knows the special relationship I have with this club and it has always felt like home to me.

So you maybe thinking, why is Chelsea signing a 36 year old? Well I can explain exactly why!

Drogba will bring an enormous amount of experience back to the club which the likes of Diego Costa, Romelu Lukaku and Patrick bamford can all learn from considering they’re still relatively young. By bringing Drogba back, Mourinho would have also managed to seriously up the morale of Chelsea’s squad.

Drogba is also a big game player, scoring nine goals in nice cup finals! Most notably his equaliser against Bayern in the Champions League final. Therefore, by bringing Drogba back to Stamford Bridge, the club as a whole will benefit from Drogba’s experience, his leadership as well as his ability to win the games that matter the most. Some of these things, the likes of Torres and Diego Costa don’t currently offer.

Next season is going to be thrilling!
