Christensen’s dream debut

Christensen became the latest debutant this week when we faced Shrewsbury. The 18 year old spoke to Chelsea TV after the game to speak about his debut.

Christensen played the full 90 minutes at right back and he started off by saying: It was nice to get some minutes, I knew IÂ’d be playing after the Man United game so I had some time to prepare myself which was good.

‘I’ve played at right-back before but it’s been quite a while since I did that so I was just trying to see my clips from before, see what I did and try and do it again.

‘The manager told me to be myself, play how I normally do and I would be fine. JT, Gary Cahill and some of the other older players told me to not rush it, play it as simple as long as I could then when I felt a bit more comfortable risk it a bit more.

However not everything went to plan, ‘I got cramp with 10 minutes left and I had to fight through it but I did which was good.’

Christensen has played in some big matches for Chelsea at youth level but he explains it was completely different to his debut against Shrewsbury.

‘It was different from the Under-21 games and it was nice,’ the 18-year-old acknowledged.

‘You don’t feel it when you’re playing, when you’ve got the ball, but when you think about it it’s amazing.’
