Chelsea star out for season

Petr Cech has suffered a dislocated shoulder according to reports made in the hospital in Madrid yesterday after his team produced a solid display and kept Atletico Madrid quiet during the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal.

The Blues’ goalkeeper was removed from the pitch in the 18th minute when he clashed Diego Costa in the air and Jose Mourinho was forced to use the 41-year-old Mark Schwarzer as Chelsea’s goalkeeper substitute. Schwarzer made a few good saves to help Chelsea keep a clean sheet at Vicente Calderon.

After a statement made by MadridÂ’s Clinica centro, which confirmed that Petr Cech suffered an anterior shoulder dislocation after falling awkwardly during the Champions League game against Atletico, ChelseaÂ’s manager Jose Mourinho was quick to let the public know that he expects his first choice goalkeeper to miss the rest of the season.

The goalkeeper isnÂ’t the only one injured as John Terry also suffered a foot problem which will rule him out as well for the rest of the season during the same game.

Petr CechÂ’s absence is obviously a huge blow for the blues but it throws the Australian Schwarzer into the limelight ahead of the title-crucial Premier League game at Anfield against Liverpool on Sunday.

Shortly after the game against the Spanish leaders of la Liga, Mark Schwarzer told ITV,

“I’m always prepared and I’m getting used to this whole thing about sitting out and being ready to play at the last minute”

He then added: “It is always a tough thing to do, but I didn’t have a chance to really think about it in this game. I just went out there and tried to do my job.”
