Chelsea Need Another Striker

Last season, the reason Chelsea didn’t win the league was because of a lack of a top class striker. On the 15th of July, Chelsea confirmed that they had signed Diego Costa. Many believed this was the end of our striker woes, especially after last night, but I beg to differ.

We have two top goalkeepers in Thibaut Courtois and Petr Cech, so why can’t we have two top goal scorers? The goalkeeper position is usually acquired by one individual throughout the season, as goalkeepers do not normally get injured. The striker position requires at least two able individuals during the long hard season, so surely that should be the position stacked with talent. Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba are not good enough to start Premier League games, should Costa get injured.

The Brazilian-turned-Spaniard has earned himself a bit of a reputation for getting angry unnecessarily, so suspension is also a problem that could surface over the season.

Plenty of adequate players are on the market; Wilfried Bony, Javier Hernandez, Loic Remy… The list is almost endless. Chelsea have comfortably qualified for Financial Fair Play, UEFA’s strict rules on how much money a club side can splash on talent, so another £15-20million could definitely pass unnoticed.

If Costa were to get injured, Torres would most likely take his place in the starting eleven, and we all know what Torres can do when given the opportunity: absolutely zilch. Sentimentality aside, club legend Didier Drogba, our third choice striker, is not good enough to lead the line anymore.

To give Chelsea the best chance of winning a trophy in 2014/15, we must sign another Premier League proven frontman, to cover any suspensions or injuries to Diego Costa.

Do you think we need a striker? If so, who? Let me know in the comments.
