Chelsea close in on top-class striker

Chelsea are reportedly finalising a deal to bring Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa to Stamford Bridge, with his manager open to such a deal.

Jose Mourinho has on multiple occasions expressed a desire for a new front man to lead his Chelsea team, and the interest in Diego Costa has been a hot topic on social media over the last few months.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a deal of up to £50 million for the striker, which would include all wages and bonuses on top of his release clause (around £32 million), if various media outlets are to be believed.

The same media outlets say that Costa will join up with his Chelsea team on June 30th, though there has been no official confirmation for either club, and none should be expected before the season is up.

The Spain international has been in fine form this season, netting 34 goals in all competitions and firing Atleti to the top of La Liga ahead of Barcelona and rivals Real Madrid.

The form has caught the attention of Mourinho who has been forced into selecting one of his three mis-firing strikers which has cost Chelsea games on multiple occasions.

To add fuel to the fire, it was revealed today that Athleti manager Diego Simeone would not stand in the way of letting his star striker go if Chelsea were to come calling for his services.

Despite it taking a huge offer to prize Costa, according to various sources Simeone claimed that he would be open to letting Costa go:

“It depends on him and what he believes is best for his future. I will support any decision. “It is normal that Chelsea are interested in him.â€

He added, “they want Diego Costa to do their work, but right now he’s ours.â€

Following the Brazilian-born’s injury sustained against Getafe, Simeone said he will be fit to play their next game, before adding:

“We do not know where he will be playing next year.â€

Stat: Diego Costa has scored 25 of his 26 La Liga goals from inside the penalty area this season (96%)

Amidst these rumours will be questions over the future of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who may very well have an involvement in any transfer involving Costa.

It is well reported that Madrid want to keep the Belgian on loan for a fourth season, but there will also be suggestions over a possible transfer for the 21-year-old.

Finally, the future of Fernando Torres has often been called into question following a troubled time at Stamford Bridge, and Simeone, once again, was open to the idea of a transfer for the Spaniard.

“He (Torres) is delighted with everything that’s happening at Atleti. How could he not return to the club where he was born?â€

Chelsea meet Diego Simeone’s team in the Champions League semi-finals and there will be links between the clubs everywhere you look on the field, with rumours still flying around.
