Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal – Match Report

The west London side defeated their rival 2-0 in what turned out to be a typically ferocious derby.

Tempers on the sideline were matched in the stands and on the pitch, with Cesc Fabregas on the receiving end of an abusive reception from his former fans.

Gary Cahill was lucky only to see yellow after a dangerous challenge and Laurent Koscielny also could have seen red after his foul on Eden Hazard which lead to a penalty.

A sublime piece of skill from Hazard saw him dribble straight through Arsenal’s defence before being caught by KoscielnyÂ’s outstretched leg. From the penalty the Belgian confidentially passed the ball into the bottom right-hand-corner, sending Wojceiech Szczesny the wrong way.

At one point during todayÂ’s fierce London derby, Arsene Wenger found himself encroaching ChelseaÂ’s technical area, prompting Jose Mourinho to shove him off and direct him back to his own dugout.

It was with angst that the Arsenal manager had lost his composure, having never beaten Mourinho – a record that would increase to 12 games.

A second half goal from the in-form Diego Costa was enough to see off Arsenal. To worsen the blow for the away supporters it was Cesc Fabregas who set up the Chelsea striker with a long-range pass.

The Spaniard – who received the man of match award – aided Chelsea in a defensively robust performance, which gained them their third clean sheet of the season. The blues have now reopened the gap between them and league followers Manchester City to 5 points.
