Breaking: Torres loan deal agreed

Chelsea have tonight confirmed that they have agreed a deal with AC Milan that will see Fernando Torres move to Italy on loan for two seasons.

The two-year loan deal will see Fernando Torres play out the remainder of his Chelsea contract at AC Milan.

This means we will not see the striker in a Chelsea shirt again. His Chelsea contract will then end in the summer of 2016.

Torres signed for Chelsea, as we all know, for a then British record of £50 million from Liverpool but failed to live up to expectations.

His move away from the Bridge is now subject to personal term being agreed and a medical at the Italian club taking place.

Chelsea’s official website confirmed this evening that a deal between the clubs had been settled.

Despite Torres scoring some memorable goals, such as Barcelona away and the 2013 Europa League final opener, there just wasn’t enough of them for his career in West London to be considered successful.

He scored 45 goals in 172 Chelsea appearances as well as bagging 35 assists in that time.

He has won the FA Cup, Europa League and of course the Champions League since signing in January 2011.

We are now waiting for the deal to be confirmed by AC Milan once the technicalities between club and player have been agreed and finalised.

Chelsea are now being linked with QPR striker Loic Remy as a potential replacement for Torres, with the Frenchman reportedly available for £8 million.

Thanks for the memories, Fernando, and we wish you well at AC Milan and for the future!
