Breaking: Courtois signs new Chelsea contract

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has put pen to paper on a new 5 year deal at Stamford Bridge, the club have announced.

The news comes after Courtois won the battle for number one at Chelsea ahead of club legend Petr Cech.

After joining from Genk in 2011, Courtois spent 3 brilliant seasons on loan at Atlético Madrid before returning to make a solid start to the season in a Chelsea shirt this time around.

After signing his contract, Courtois said:

I’m very happy with this new deal, it’s really nice to have signed this new contract for five years.

“My future was already sorted but it’s nice to know I’m going to be here for another five years and now I can just concentrate on playing games”, he added.

Courtois has been vital for Chelsea as they have started the season with three consecutive wins in the Premier League.

The new deal keeps him tied down at the club until 2019.
