Chelsea midfield maestro excited for “massive” derby against Tottenham

Moises Caicedo admitted Thursday night’s game against Tottenham is a “massive derby” and added he’s excited to play.

Chelsea and Tottenham is always a fiery occasion, but with the season drawing to a conclusion both teams have European aspirations which will rest heavily on the result.

The Blues currently sit ninth in the Premier League, five points behind Newcastle in seventh, which appears to be the last available place for European qualification as things stand.

Victory over Spurs would close the gap on the Magpies to just two points with four games remaining.

Caicedo excited for Spurs game

Given the huge rivalry between the clubs it’s understandable for players to be excited about the prospect of getting out on the pitch

Off the back of his man of the match performance against Aston Villa last weekend, Caicedo can’t wait to get back on the pitch.

Caicedo is set to be partnered by Conor Gallagher in the Chelsea midfield.

“It’s a massive derby”, the 22-year-old told Chelsea’s official website.

“I hope I am going to play and it would be amazing to play against them and show our football. Win that game and it would be amazing for us.”

It’s been a another disappointing campaign for the Blues with no silverware and the possibility of missing out on European football for a second consecutive season, but Caicedo believes things will improve over the final few games and in the future.

“There have been quite a few highs and lows this season, but I am very happy to be here at a great club.

“It’s a very young squad and I am sure that next season will be better than this one.

‘He [Pochettino] has done a lot for us. We are a very young team and he has taught us a lot.

“We have a lot to work on still. As I said, we are a young team, but we will keep learning little by little and adapting to everything he is telling us.”

The Ecuador international is set to once again be partnered by Conor Gallagher in the Chelsea midfield, due to the absence of Enzo Fernandez, and winning the midfield battle will be key to Chelsea’s chances of winning.
