“We all feel the responsibility” – Mauricio Pochettino shares views on club’s injury crisis

Mauricio Pochettino has stated everyone “feels the responsibility” of the injury crisis that has plagued Chelsea this season.

The Blues are set to be without 14 players for Thursday night’s London derby against Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have endured another largely disappointing campaign with no silverware, and the possibility of missing out on European football for the second consecutive season.

Pochettino admits everyone feels responsible for the injury crisis

One of the contributing factors to the Blue’s struggles this season has been the volume of injuries and the severity.

Pochettino hasn’t been able to call upon Wesley Fofana at all this season, summer signing Romeo Lavia has played half an hour, whilst Christopher Nkunku has only started two Premier League games.

Chelsea are set to be without 14 players for Thursday’s game against Tottenham.

Captain Reece James has been limited to just nine appearances due to a hamstring injury, but is now back in training, with the possibility of appearing before the end of the season.

Whilst Chelsea’s struggles can’t solely be blamed on injuries you can see the impact it’s had, with the club unable to call on a host of key players for large parts of the campaign.

The Argentine was asked in his pre match press conference for the reason behind the long list of injuries and responded:

“I need to be honest, with a new process there are things we can do better.

“We all feel the responsibility and all of us can do better because there are too many circumstances that have happened and it is difficult to explain with one sentence.

“We are working to try and improve, we have an amazing medical staff and coaching staff, who all have experience managing clubs and we need to put all the information on the table, at the end of the season and be better next season.

“We need to improve the communication, the dynamics and the strategy, so we need to put all our knowledge to try and improve and coordinate better on all the things we can improve.

“There are too many things, that are all together today that is why we are suffering so many injuries.”

Signing a striker is viewed as the main priority this summer, but you could argue getting to the bottom of the injury issues is even more important, the Blues simply can’t afford to face the same problems next season.
