Nicolas Jackson admitted he’s missed too many chances for Chelsea this season but insists the “goals will come.”
Jackson has scored 13 goals in his debut campaign, with ten of those coming in the Premier League, but only has one goal in his last eight games across all competitions.
The 22-year-old joined from Spanish side Villareal for £32m last summer, and signed an eight year contract at Stamford Bridge, but is yet to consistently find his best form in a struggling Chelsea side.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men sit ninth in the table with just five games remaining, and are in danger of missing out on European football again despite the huge spending under Todd Boehly in recent windows.
The Senegal international has come in for criticism for being wasteful in front of goal, particularly after missing a series of huge chances in the defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi final, and the forward has been reflecting on his debut campaign.
“I think I should have scored more with the chances I missed”, Jackson told Sky Sports.
“It’s good, but not what I wanted to be when I came to play Champions League next season. Everything happens for a reason and we try to fight next year.
“Even if I scored 10 or 15, the most important thing is for the team to be as high as possible and make the fans happy. Then the goals will come.
Both Chelsea and Jackson will hope he can add to his goal tally on Thursday night at Stamford Bridge as the Blues face a crucial London derby against Tottenham, knowing they must win in order to keep their faint European hopes alive.
