Willian extends his Chelsea stay for four more years

Chelsea Football Club have today confirmed that Brazilian international Willian has pledged his future to the club, signing  a new four-year deal.

The 27-year-old extends his stay at Stamford Bridge until 2020, after a season where he was voted as the club’s best player by both his team-mates and the supporters, despite an awful season on the whole for the Blues.

Willian arrived at Stamford Bridge back in the summer of 2013, and has since established himself as one of the first names on the team-sheets for each game, because of his ability with the ball, combined with his determined work rates.

Speaking after signing the contract, Willian said:

I’m very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea. It’s a dream to continue with this club and over the next four years I will try to help the team win more trophies.

It’s been an amazing time for me since I joined the club three years ago, I’ve won titles and last season I was named Chelsea Player of the Year.

Former Shakhtar Donetsk and Anzhi midfielder Willian played a pivotal role in the 2014/15 season which saw the Blues win the Capital One Cup, as well as being crowned as Premier League champions, without much competition.

Techincal director Michael Emenalo was also pleased with the business to keep Willian at Stamford Bridge:

We are very pleased to agree a new long-term deal with Willian, who has proved himself to be an important player for the team since he arrived here. We are looking forward to seeing his continued impact as we begin an exciting new campaign under first-team head coach Antonio Conte

Last season, before the end of October, Willian had already netted six times from set pieces, and followed these up with memorable goals against Porto and Crystal Palace respectively.

His performances last campaign earned him a call-up to the Brazil squad for this summer’s Copa America, but Willian has since returned to Cobham as pre-season training gets underway before the team jets off for their tours.
