Liverpool vs Chelsea – Match Preview

Liverpool vs Chelsea – Match Preview

After a 3-2 defeat in Sunderland, Chelsea now travel to Liverpool to play our final away game of the season and our game in hand due to Liverpool’s appearance in the Capital One Cup final.

Anfield has become a bit of a fortress in recent months with Liverpool not losing at home since January. Therefore a draw for Chelsea would certainly be considered as a good result.

Jurgen Klopp also rested key names such as Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge for their game on Sunday in preparation for the visit of Chelsea. A refreshed Liverpool side will bring the game to us, which will mean the Blues will have to be clinical to claim a result.

This was something Diego Costa struggled with at Sunderland despite putting us in the lead, he also missed two big chances in the second half to wrap the game up. But knowing Costa he will be raring to go at Anfield.

Defeat at Sunderland meant Chelsea now can’t finish any higher than 9th in the league while Liverpool will be hoping to finish strongly in their last two games in order to guarantee European football next season.

Saturday’s performance was a very strange one with Chelsea looking absolutely brilliant in the 1st half like the Mourinho side of last season, however the second half performance was similar to Mourinho’s side this season and very poor.

Youngsters such as Kasey Palmer and Tammy Abraham have taken part in first team training this weekend which could mean Chelsea fans may see some debuts tomorrow night which many have called for this season.

Come on Chelsea!

Match Details

Wednesday, 11th May, kick off at 8:00pm at Anfield on Sky Sports 2.

Recent Form

Liverpool have claimed back wins coming against Villarreal and Watford but before those two games lost back to back matches this time away at Villarreal and Swansea. Before all four of these matches they drew with Newcastle at home.

Chelsea go into the game with considerably worse form than Liverpool, having only won 1 game in our last five at Bournemouth. We have also been on the receiving end of 3 defeats coming against Swansea, Man City and Sunderland. The draw with Tottenham felt like a win however having officially ended their title hopes.

Team News

Guus Hiddink reported no new injuries for Chelsea, meaning only Kurt Zouma and Loic Remy are out for the Blues.

Liverpool have a fair amount injury concerns of their own with reserve keeper Danny Ward, Divock Origi and Joe Gomez all ruled out for the rest of the season. Danny Ings recently returned to Liverpool training but he also looks set to miss out on the rest of the season. Jordan Henderson and Jordan Rossitter are also out for tomorrow.

My Prediction

Liverpool 3-1 Chelsea
