Chelsea vs Man City – Match Preview

Preview

Chelsea welcome Man City to Stamford Bridge this weekend looking to avenge the 3-0 defeat at the Etihad near the beginning of the season. However Chelsea did beat an unfamiliar Man City side in the FA Cup 5-1 back in February.

Last weekend saw Chelsea slip to a 1-0 defeat to Swansea – our first defeat in the Premier League since Hiddink took charge in December which also ended our 14 match unbeaten run – the longest in the Premier League this season.

Man City have had a much better month than the Blues after securing their place in the Champions League semi finals on Tuesday night – the furthest the club have ever gone in the competition.

Saturday night’s match will see the return of Kevin De Bruyne for the first time. After failing to impress at Chelsea the Belgian was sold to Wolfsburg and it will be interesting to see what type of reception he will receive from Chelsea fans after he unacceptably forced a move out after being unwilling to fight for a place.

Despite having little but positions to play for, for the remainder of the season, it is still important the players step up and play well in order to prove they still are quality players. It is also a good chance for them to impress Antonio Conte who will join us in the summer.

Match Details

Saturday, 16th April, kick off 5:30pm at Stamford Bridge on Sky Sports 1.

Recent form

Chelsea have unfortunately only managed to win 1 of their last 5 games in all competitions which came at Villa Park with a 4-0 win. The other 4 results ended in one draw with West Ham and 3 defeats coming against PSG, Everton and Swansea. Therefore Chelsea definitely need a good result tomorrow.

Man City have had considerably better results across the last 5 games having won 3 matches against Bournemouth, West Brom and PSG. Their draw was also against PSG and their defeat was at home to Man United thanks to a Rashford winner.

Team News

In Guus Hiddink’s press conference earlier today the Dutchman confirmed that both John Terry and Loic Remy are still not back fit enough to feature this weekend.

Eden Hazard has trained 3 times this week and he is on the edge of full fitness.

However he also shared good news in the fact that Gary Cahill and Nemanja Matic are back fit.

Diego Costa has completed his 3 match suspension and is available.

My Prediction

Chelsea 2-2 Man City
