Costa to start tomorrow

Prior to the build up of our game with Norwich, Guus Hiddink said in his press conference that Diego Costa may be rested in one of our next two games in order for him to be fully fresh to face PSG next week.

However Hiddink confirmed today that Costa will actually start against Stoke at Stamford Bridge tomorrow just like he did during the week against Norwich.

He wants to play every game. It’s difficult to put a brake on him. Tomorrow he will start but maybe he will not play the full game. He is in perfect physical shape, but we also must be careful not to overload him in games. We monitor them with the data of the medical team and I can make some conclusions from that.

Hiddink also stressed the importance of our star striker being looked after and treated carefully in order to keep him fit. Costa is a player full of passion and determination to win but our manager also says if he shares his collected data with him, the striker will be rational too and take the necessary action for the good of himself.

We are living in an emotional world but sometimes you have to be rational as well. I talk with him about his physical state, which is superb. There is always a danger of him doing too much, and if I share the figures with him he can be rational as well. We must let him go but sometimes I must put him on a leash.
