Courtois: The most important thing is to win games

Thibaut Courtois has disclosed that winning a match is more important than keeping a clean sheet. He was quick to add that, even though clean sheet is nice, what matters is the three points.

The blues have secured three consecutive clean sheets after being held by Sunderland in a 0-0 draw last weekend at the Stadium of Light, they also have a 20 game unbeaten run under their sleeves since the start of the 2014/2015 season.

The 22-year-old is quoted as saying on Chelsea’s official website during an exclusive interview.

“We don’t have to focus on clean sheets, the most important thing is to win games,” the Belgium international said.

“Obviously it’s nice to keep a clean sheet but I’d rather win the match 2-1. It’s good that we haven’t lost a match but we want to win rather than draw.”

The youngster also added that the week ahead is a crucial one, as they welcome Tottenham to Stamford Bridge for a London derby on Wednesday night, then on Saturday, travel to St. JamesÂ’ Park to play against Alan PardewÂ’s Newcastle United. He was optimistic that even though this month is a vital one, the team will try to be a success.

“It’s an important week with two difficult game; first a derby against Tottenham in front of our own fans and then we go away to Newcastle, which will be tough. It’s an important month and we will try to win as many games as we can.” Courtois concluded.
