Milan confident of landing van Ginkel

Italian giants AC Milan are confident of completing the loan signing of Chelsea’s Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel, according to The Guardian.

Milan have emerged as favourites to sign the out-of-favour Chelsea youngster who is yet to feature in a competitive game for the club since recovering from his ruptured anterior cruciate ligament back in March.

The midfielder’s short-term departure would solve the Blues’ need to get rid of one it’s foreign players. According to the Premier League’s rules and regulations, only 17 foreign players are permitted to be registered for the club’s league season.

Chelsea currently exceed that limit and would have to sell or loan out a few of their players in order to meet the regulations. As such, Van Ginkel is the leading candidate to exit the West London club, along with Fernando Torres, Petr Cech and John Obi Mikel.

Van Ginkel only joined Chelsea last summer from Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem but the player’s first season in England was virtually ended in October during a Capital One Cup game against Swindon Town. The player suffered the dreaded ruptured ACL which ruled him out of first-team action for a good 5 months.

The player did make a return with Chelsea’s Under-21s in late March. Van Ginkel was also an unused substitute in a few of the club’s games towards the end of last season . The Dutchman narrowly missed out 0n a place in Louis van Gaal’s Dutch squad for the World Cup too.

The midfielder clearly doesn’t seem in Jose Mourinho’s plans for the new season, given that he was not even named on the bench for Chelsea’s first 2 Premier League games against Burnley and Leicester. Should the midfielder be loaned out, he could potentially be joined by current Chelsea teammate Fernando Torres, who like Van Ginkel, has been heavily tipped to join AC Milan on loan this season.
