Report: Chelsea step up Pogba pursuit

Goal.com‘s Chief Football Correspondent, Wayne Veysey, has claimed that Chelsea are putting together the most lucrative package in the club’s history to entice the highly rated France midfielder, Paul Pogba, who is valued at around £60 million by Juventus. According to the report, the Londoners are putting together a “staggering” package to entice the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The report goes on to say that owner Roman Abramovich is ready to sanction a wage package for the midfielder that is even higher than that of Eden Hazard, Fernando Torres, John Terry and even the recently-purchased Cesc Fabregas. All of whom pocket around £180,000+ a week. Jose Mourinho reportedly wants Pogba to partner Nemanja Matic in Chelsea’s defensive midfield next season as he has earmarked Fabregas for the No.10 role. Mourinho also believes that Pogba will develop into one of the World’s finest midfielders, and become a driving force in defensive midfield.

The deal still seems unlikely to go through given the £60m-plus valuation that Juventus have placed on their prized asset. Despite this, the report says that Chelsea have already made discreet enquiries for Pogba and believe that he could be open to a return to the Premier League.

Juventus may have to offer the French sensation a vastly improved contract to fend off interest from Chelsea.
