Jose looks to Varane to fill Luiz void

According to reports, José Mourinho is looking to sign talented French defender Raphael Varane.

The 21-year-old benefited from a substantial amount of playing time under Mou, but has since fallen down the pecking order, with the more experienced Pepe stepping into his place.

The youngster is seen as a longterm replacement for the outgoing David Luiz, whose nonchalant approach never really enamoured the pragmatic Portuguese.

Of course, there is Kurt Zouma. Signed from Saint Etienne is the January transfer window, his services are yet to be tested, though many see him as a future hot prospect.

Mourinho, then, will be looking to test the resolve of new Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, who won’t wish to sell such a promising young talent at a cheap price.

However, the astronomical fee received by the Luiz deal will go a long way to funding any replacement.

Varane, who is billed as the next great French defender, has already enjoyed a decorated career. Reuniting with Mourinho, a man who offered him a stage to perform on, may prove to be an offer too tempting for the promising youngster.
