Frank Lampard Chelsea Legend

Why the club is forever in debt to Frank Lampard

When Frank Lampard signed for Chelsea back in 2001 for a fee of around 11 million pounds, nobody could have dreamed or imagined that he would turn out to be the player that we all love and admire. A regular starter for the West Ham side in the 1997-98 season, he contributed a lot to getting them their highest ever place in the Premier League.

I think we can all agree that what made Frank Lampard was the arrival of Jose Mourinho at the club in 2005. What he did was turn Frank into a great player; a mentality was installed in Frank that being a midfielder meant more than just assisting and scoring. We often hear stories about how Frank would stay on after training and perfect his skills.

This dedication and commitment to the cause is why he can be named as one of the all time greats. As Mourinho put it in his football writer dinner, “My assistant [coaches] are like my brothers, Frank represents my players, without whom I have no career.” Frank not only represents the players, he represents what is good in football – a true professional. This professionalism spreads down to the younger generation, which in my opinion still need time to develop as true professional players.

The fact that he is Chelsea’s all time top scorer tells us something about his nature personally. He has a desire to make runs into the penalty box and win the ball, and when the ball is in our half Frank will always be there helping out on defence.

Aston Villa away, more commonly known as the day Frank Lampard became immortal to Chelsea Football Club. The day saw Frank’s 203rd goal in a Chelsea shirt.

A pinnacle for any great athlete, being at the top of your game for extended periods of time is something hard to achieve. Consistency is something which you have to work for. The old saying goes, “form is temporary, class is forever.” This is something that can only be achieved through years of pain and training.

Frank Lampard is an undisputed club legend. I’m sure we can all agree that he is a once-in-a-generation player. A true character in the dressing room, a true leader on the field and a true role model to many young aspiring players.
