Eden Hazard: Coming of age

“I am signing for the champions league winner.”

Those of us who have twitter I’m sure will remember this momentous tweet. The day where all the speculation ended, the day we fought off Manchester city and Manchester United. Had we not gone and won the champions league that season, well things could have turned out very differently for the club.

Last season we all saw that this kid (and I call him kid because he is only 23 years old) has potential, watching from the stands I would often hear the mutterings of “This boys special” or “how did he do that?”.

I can remember his first game in the Premier League for us was against Wigan Athletic at the DW stadium. A quick turn and a delightful through ball to Ivanovic who slotted the ball into the net. This was a prologue for the rest of the season.

He went on to score 15 goals in the league that season a great tally for his first season in English football. This season however, he has already scored 14 in the league and assisted 7. I believe he rivals some of the top players in the division and how he hasn’t won a player of the month award yet is beyond me.

A footballing legend Zinedine Zidane once said that “Eden is technically gifted and very fast”. “I would take him to Real Madrid with my eyes closed. “He can become a great footballer, he is a star of the future.” That star is now starting to show us what he can really do.

Under Mourinhos guidance and being around world-class players there is nothing to stop Eden Hazard reaching the immortal levels of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Eden hasn’t hid his desire to reach the levels of these two supergiants of football.

In my opinion he is a lot closer to those levels than a lot of people realize. The only thing that he needs to do is to take his chances when he gets them and if he can score 20+ goals a season than we at Chelsea football club could have the next Ronaldo or Messi playing for US. A scary thought for any European or Premier league side, an exciting prospect for the future and for the club.
